Sessions and website security

The website uses a session to support sign-in, form feedback, and other interactions between requests. Security tokens are used to help protect forms. Session and security cookies may therefore be present when you use these features.

Blocking all cookies can prevent sign-in or form submissions from working correctly. Browser settings let you inspect and clear stored site data. The lifetime of a session depends on the website’s configured session settings; clearing a session cookie can sign you out.

Preferences saved on your device

The countries explorer can save your low-power globe preference in browser local storage. Announcement pop-ups may also save that they have been dismissed, so the same notice does not repeatedly interrupt your visit.

Local storage is different from a cookie but also keeps information in your browser. You can clear it through your browser’s site-data settings. Clearing these preferences can make an announcement reappear or reset a display preference.

Website visitor measurements

When website analytics is enabled, eligible public page visits can record the page path, route, visit time, referring website hostname, browser category, device category and page response time. A country code may be available from a configured trusted network provider.

Analytics uses a visit identifier stored in the session and a hashed session identifier to distinguish visits. These are technical identifiers; hashing does not by itself make all usage information anonymous. The tracking code also checks the request IP address to classify some local traffic. Server or hosting logs may separately process connection information.

This description concerns the built-in website analytics. It does not promise that analytics waits for an opt-in choice or that every visitor is unidentifiable. Contact us for the currently deployed settings and retention arrangements.

Embedded videos and external services

Pages may embed YouTube videos using the youtube-nocookie.com player and link to services such as WhatsApp, maps or social networks. When embedded content loads or an external service is opened, your browser connects to that provider, which can receive technical information and apply its own privacy practices.

Privacy-enhanced video embedding is not a guarantee that no information reaches the video provider. Consult the provider’s own information before using its service. External sites are responsible for their own storage and data handling.

Your browser controls and questions

You can review cookies and local storage, remove saved site data and change browser permissions in your browser settings. A private browsing window can limit what is retained after the session, but it does not stop every network request or make all browsing anonymous.
